The BEST Post Master -- My MOM!
by Debbie Morgan
( Kentucky)
While I was reading the article “Best Postman” in the Nov.Dec issue of Inky Trail News, I was reminded of the small post office in a low income area of Harlan Co. where my mother was the postal clerk.
It was in the front of our home and everyone knew mom and mom knew everyone in the neighborhood.
She helped people all the time with making out money orders and bills for people who could not hardly read or for the elderly.
She made sure that the order of live chicks were taken care of until they could be picked up or the wrapped packages for others.
Many people would bring her garden vegetables, home-made honey, or fresh meat killed from a hog or beef. Mom passed away this past September from her fight with cancer.
Many of the ones who knew her for 24 years as the postmaster helped us through such a sad time with their memories and support.
Wendy's Two Cents: Debbie, I think you made your mother proud with this story! Thank you so very much for sharing!
