The Wide World of Tape Paling

I started to write about “how” to tape pal - but those articles have already been written. What I’d like to write about today, is the benefits of tape paling - what do I enjoy about it?

Well, what do I enjoy about it? Everything - except postage, but then none of us enjoys that, even in letter writing! But I do find the postage spent entirely worth it.

Some pals enjoy taping their favorite music - as a music lover myself, this is so nice! Tape pals talk about their lives, what’s going on, hobbies, pets, family, work - the possibilities are endless and its easy to be creative with it.

Also, I’ve found people who are a little like me in some ways - I don’t always find that right next door (sometimes I do, though). But I have found it on tapes sometimes - and for those who are not “just like me”, well, “vive la différence!” - differences are what makes life interesting! And its one of the reasons I penpal and tape pal in the first place - to find people different than me.

When pals are having good times, and joking around - its wonderful to smile, laugh and rejoice with them. When they go through hard times and there is no smiling or laughing - then how good it is to reach out and give them support. It brings us outside of ourselves and its always good to reach out to others - here we have an opportunity.

Its also a great way to learn about websites, what other pals are swapping or involved with, about hobbies you didn’t know about before, perhaps even helpful resources. One of my tape pals “unknowingly” helped me to better respond to my family in a time of crisis - and it worked.

A letter in my mailbox still makes my day, but a tape in my mailbox is a really special thing.

Also, hearing a person’s voice and the tone and emotion behind it fosters greater understanding. How many times have I read letters, wondering what exactly they meant? With tapes, I have not often wondered - I usually know. And if there is a misunderstanding, its usually easier to correct when you can talk it out on tape. Oh and for those of us with vision problems, taping takes of the frustration of not being able to read handwriting of small print!

I have only had one negative experience, but that can happen anytime, even with pen paling. Since then, however, I’ve had 12 other very good experiences which far outweigh that one negative experience.

So, in closing, I still like pen paling and still do it and I still welcome penpals from all over. But tape paling is my favorite way to correspond.
