Tape Pals

by Jaime B.
(USA)

Tape palling was a foreign concept to me a few years ago! I hadn't even ever heard of such a thing before. Of course, I'd been doing regular pen palling since I was 13 years old, but the idea of talking into a tape recorder was a bit of an intimidating thought to me.

It was about 5 years ago when I first heard of taping. I joined a tape round robin. Doing that first tape was so hard for me, just because of the initial awkwardness of it. The round robin must have gotten lost along the way early on, because I only ever received it once!

Then a few months ago, I decided I wanted to give taping another try and after getting over the awkwardness, it's so much FUN!!! It's great being able to hear the voice of your pals and you can share so much and get to know each other quite quickly.

So if you haven't given taping a try yet, but are wondering what it's all about, it's definitely worth the money to buy the tape recorder! :) You will build such close friendships!!

I have met some really fantastic women and I know we'll be lifelong friends.

Love Taping!
by: Zenobia

I have not done this in years. I thought that the idea was so original to a friend and myself when both our telephones were disconnected and we lived far away ( she in Illinois and me in Mississippi).

I had a portable tape recorder and began taping while doing the dishes, or when I found a quiet time.

I kept her abreast of what was going on in the lives of my five children, I played music for her, and kept her up on the daily events of our lives.

My friend has since passed away and I have one of her old tapes tucked away and listen when I get the chance.

Are there any current tape pen pals on this list?
I would certainly like to try it again.

Sincerely, Zenobia
