Real Kids Pen Pals..

I am interested in getting my daughter a pen pal to help learn of different places and cultures.
I have talked with her about it and she is very excited.
I always have reservations about these types of thing being that the world is so crazy. I want to know that it is safe and real.
Is there any way of checking that your site is offering a real and safe service?
i just want to feel safe about this.
Thanks for your time.

Wendy's reply: I'm not sure what I can do to prove we really do real kids pals...
The two things I've done to prove to myself that the kids are real and that I have parental approval are:
1) After the kids submits the pen pal ad online, we send a follow up email saying send this to your parent or no pals. The parent has to email back their approval for the child to get pen pal letters.
2) When a kid buys a pen pal list... they have to mail in the form, and the parent signs the bottom of the form.
Either way, these letters will come by snail mail, we don't do email (as you can never REALLY tell who is at the other end of that email)... This way, the parents can monitor the letters coming into the home.
Hope this helps you! We've sent oodles of pen pal lists to kids requesting them and the parents say they are thrilled receiving the friendly letters.
