Questions to ask a Pen Pal

by Amy
(California)

This will be my 3rd time as a pen pal, the first 2 times was easy to write to them. This one if different, I wrote first, she replied, now I'm lost, I don't know what to ask her anymore.

A long time friend once gave me a "questionaire" for friends to answer, that was years ago. I was wondering if there is a site or anything with fun interesting questions to send to a pen pal, seeing as how my new pal loves quizzes and puzzles.

Any ideas? Thanks alot for helping me out. :)

Wendy's Ideas: First, I hope other pals will post their letter topic ideas below in the comments and help you too!

Comment on her letter. There needs to be a dialog between two pen pals, give and take.. comment on each others info. If not, you are kinda just talking to yourself...

A few ideas off the top of my head:

  • Ask about their last vacation trip...
  • Ask about favorites - favorite book and why?
Fav foods? Fav tv shows? Fav whatever!
  • Describe the personality of family members to give you a better picture of what they are like.
  • Share newsworthy items from the local news.
  • Recent day trip, festival, happening you attended.
  • Ask them to describe the view out their front window (ok, I stole this one from my Inky Trail News.. I love to see what readers see!)
  • Any crafty projects? Any classes they are taking and what are they learning that surprises them?

OK, now if you are reading this, click the comment below and send us your ideas too!

    Anything you think of!
    by: JasmineF

I have had about a total of about 25 pen pals (I dont keep in touch with all anymore but you get the idea;)) and we talked about loads of things! I guess it really depends on your age group as to what you would want to talk about.

I'm 15 and we talk about stuff like what they wanted to do after High School, if they wanted to go to College, what they wanted to major in. Flip through a book until you see a word that reminds you or makes you come up with a topic. How much do they want to drive? Do they have a permit?
(Stuff like that is interesting to US teenagers).

If you are younger (12 or so) talk about the latest book series you read or how you are crushing on the new boy at school. Really anything that comes to mind. When I received a letter I would read it as soon as I got it and then think over the rest of the day what I would say back as I did homework or chores or whatever.

What kind of music does she like or listen to, what are her fave bands? List some of yours as well, most pen pals like to hear as much about you as we do about them. If this is a foreign pen pal ask them how things are different in their country, do they speak any other languages? Do you?

Well I hope this helps, good luck!

Travel - where have they been, where would they like to go.

Job: what do they do, their ideal job if they could do anything.

Food - what is their absolute favourite dish, have they eaten any weird foods?
