Prisoner Mail

by maggie
(bethel park)

i have an acquaintance who is in prison and truly is in need of contact with the outside world. he is very lonely. a friend of a friend asked me to write and send a fews cards & jokes is there somewhere i can send his address at this time? i am working 12 hrs days and truly do not have time i truly could use some help

Wendy's response: This website and pen pal newspaper doesn't do prisoners. Do a Google search and you'll find plenty of sites that specialize in prisoners.. OK? I'd lose all my readers if I let prisoners in the door, few want to write and that's just how it is. They are strangers, in prison, need I say more?

I wish I could help you but there are lots of websites that will.

Thanks! Wendy

Prisoner Mail: Wendy is doing the right thing
by: Anonymous

I have written to prisoners since 1996. And I wanted to say that Wendy is doing the right thing by not advertising them on her site. There are kids on this site for one thing and you don't want minors writing to them.

I have had a lot of good experiences with prisoners. And I have also been scammed in the past and threatened.

Writing to prisoners can feel rewarding. It can also bring you down as you deal with their moods and all.

Wendy is doing the right thing in everyone's best interest by not posting them here. If you want to write prisoners you can find them at writeaprisoner.com. Thank you.

And thank you Wendy for keeping this site clean and in the general public's best interest.

Are you kidding me?

I read this post because I wanted to make sure this site was not allowing children ages 5 to 17 write to prisoners. Those of you that replied are right..there is nothing wrong with writing to prisoners, but this site is intended for kids to have a pen pal that is a kid as well. I don't even know why you complained. I am glad to see that it isn't allowed because I would like to keep my child safe. It would be kind of disapointing for a child to have written to someone only to learn that they weren't really who they thought they were.

Wendy's reply: Actually, this post was for adults, who write letters.... even adult women, most of them, won;t write to prisoners. KIDS -- that thought is downright scarey~!~

Prisoners: why not write, we cannot be afraid of everybody
by: Anonymous

anything you do in life is a risk, crossing the street, talking to the mailman, who knows who the guy in the car next to you is from? maybe we should all stay home locked up to be safe. If you want to write to a prisoner you could get a p.o. box. gee I wonder what Jesus would have done?

Wendy Go for it! I hope you do.. there are oodles of prisoner pen pal sites on the web, you can find lots of pals this way. BUT you won't find them here.. that's all I am saying.

Prisoners

i write to prisoners.they haven't scammed me.i have been writing to prisoners now for about 18 years.i think its safe.im not the gullible type and prisoners know that with me.so you should let prisoners advertise in your penpal paper. bye for now. Tina in england

Wendy: I would lose most subscribers if I allowed prison pen pals... sorry! I'm glad you've had good experiences, you are doing a great ministry in helping those inside... but I just can't.

Prison Pen Pals
by: abookyouwant

A prisoner's contact with the outside world is a positive factor, especially if that contact is with someone willing to encourage the male or female prisoner to assess their past life and bring about the change necessary for him or her to lead a productive existence when released.

Why should you care?

Some of the prisoners are serving life sentences, or have been sentenced to die by gas or lethal injection, but most will someday be released from prison to again live among us.

Those prisoners may end up being your neighbor or fellow employees, need I say more?

Wendy's Comment: While this is true, many prisoners scam those who write to them... it is often not safe to write to prisoners.
