Pals & Sisters of the Heart
By Tish Seelinger
I have a relatively new pal who has become very special in my life in a very short time. The instant we started corresponding with each other, I felt a special bond with her and it wasn't long before we
started referring to each other as sisters.
We are both super long letter writers, and it's not uncommon for us to exchange 20 + pages. It seems that we never run out of anything to chat about as we have so much in common. We tend to ramble on and on until our letters resembled chapters of a book.
My pal surprised me on New Year's Eve by phoning me to wish me a Happy New Years. It was sweet of her to remember me on the first day of the year, but then she's like that.
For Valentine's day as my gift she made a purple plastic canvas kleenex holder. I treasure it as I know there was love woven in each stitch. It is also special as I had told her all the kids have allergies
and as many tissues as we end up buying, we might as well invest in stock in the kleenex industry, and it touched me that she had recalled one of our many
written conversations and sent me such a useful object.
We also exchange friendship cards. When I see a greeting card at the store that reminds me of our blossoming friendship, I purchase the card and send it to my dear pal/friend/sister.
So, here's to you, Karen Holbrook, you are a very special pal/friend, and sister of my heart.
