Omaha,NE

by Robyn Johannes,

I live in a doublewide mobile home. I have two 72 inch wide windows in my front room.
My desk is situated in the corner right next to one of them.

I don't get outside as much as I would like to, so I consider these my windows on the world.
My husband recently hung a hummingbird feeder right outside the window, so once they realize its there,
I will be able to watch them feed.  Their ability to flap their wings so fast in mid air and stay
in one place just fascinates me.  Hopefully they will come this summer.

Sometimes I consider myself the neighborhood watch.  I have become familiar with the cars that
come and go and know which ones go with each home.  If a strange car pulls into one of the driveways,
I admit I do keep an eye out for anything suspicious just in case.

I have seen alot of new decks being built in the past few weeks.  Lots of people doing yard work,
young people walking the streets, talking on their phones.  Once in awhile
I see someone riding their bikes. Lots of people walking their dogs.

Some neighbors are so close and so loud, that I can hear everything they say.
I have seen and sometimes hear my neighbors arguing and fighting.  If they have brought it outside,
I will pay attention to the intensity of it just in case I need to call for help.

There's a fire hydrant in the corner of my yard.  I tried to plant some tulips around it several
years ago, but they just don't seem to do well there.  I only got one bloom this year.
I think its the soil, but it could be the salt and snow that gets piled up there because I
am on a corner lot.

I see 3 or 4  school buses, picking up and dropping kids off.  I see teenage boys walking
around with their jeans riding below their butt cheeks, and walking with their legs spread
wide in order to keep their pants from falling down.  I am so tempted to yell out the window
for them to pull up their pants.  I will never
understand that fashion fad.  I wonder why parents and schools let them get away with it.
I wonder what would happen if young teenage girls wore their jeans like that.
I can almost say with a certainty that they would not be allowed to dress that way
regardless of the popularity of the fad.

I do enjoy my windows, I know I could never be happy without lots of windows to look out of.

Young People in Omaha, NE
by: Shirley

I really enjoyed your story.

It is amazing the things young people wear nowadays, but I am sure that they must think that we over 40 dress "too old" as we did when we were young. All generations are the same, no matter what time or year they find themselves in.
