Matthew and the Mail Lady

by Karen Morris
(Lakewood, Ohio)

Matthew Morris

My Son Matthew is 3 years old and of course he is now at the stage when he just LOVES to say Hello to everyone and to wave.

Well the nice thing is that on our street we have many friendly people that will wave back and say Hello to him no matter how many times he does it. It's so very nice that even our Mail Lady knows him by name, she will hand him our mail and ask him how he's doing and just make small talk with him. She will stop and just chat for a few and it's tickles him beyond belief.

So one day he saw that I was writing a pen pal letter and getting it ready to be mailed out, he said to me I need an envelope. I asked him why? He told me that he needed to send a letter to the mail lady.

So I went and got him a card (a Thank you one) and I let him sign his name (MM for Matthew Morris) and I addressed it and he licked the envelope shut.

We then waited on the front porch and he watched her go all the way down the street and them come back towards our house all the while his grin getting bigger as she got closer.

Once she got here he handed the envelope to her, she wasn't sure what it was and I told her NO it's not to mail out it's for you from Matthew, she smiled so big, opened it up and gave him a big hug.

I think it made her day and I know it made Matthew's!
