LOST PEN PAL: Dana Davis, Ohio
by Heather Kilby (maiden)
(Youngsville, NC)
I first met Dana (male) when I was 12 years old on Damn Neck Beach, VA. We were pen pals for years and lost touch.
Once I became a senior in high school, I decided to write him again and found out that he was stationed in Cherry Point, NC as a Marine. USMC discharged around 1997.
He gladly came up to visit me in Virginia Beach one night with a friend. Shortly after that I started dating someone and broke his heart - I had no idea that he actually liked me.
We lost touch again. I moved Pilot, NC with my family and he ended up calling me around 96/97? from Wilton, NC asking me for some help. He needed a ride to RDU to catch a plane flight home. I was 19 at the time and totally self-absorbed and a snob. I gave him the cold shoulder most of the time, but helped him out. My mother drove him to the airport and I haven't heard from him since.
I've felt horrible ever since about the way I treated him. I often wonder if my life would have turned out differently if I'd actually dated him in high school. We did develop a bond through our writing and I honestly do care about him. I would love to know that he's happy, healthy and doing well - enjoying life.
If you know Dana Davis or are him - please contact me! I'd love to catch up!
