Looking out My Window:
Roseburg, Oregon

by Cynthia Ebner
(Roseburg, Oregon)

Looking toward the northwest from our home

Looking toward the northwest from our home

My husband & I live on a hill in Roseburg, Oregon.

Several years ago, I started a seed from a Mimosa tree in the neighborhood. I first put it in a planting pot until it got big enough to plant into the ground. It is a gorgeous tree over 12 feet tall, and as it grew, my husband shaped it like an umbrella. August is the month that it is in full bloom. The blooms look like small pink feathers, with light yellow centers.

We keep a hummingbird feeder on one of the branches. The hummingbirds congregate around the feathery blooms, as well as using their feeder.

About 5 years ago, when doing some remodeling on our old 85 yr old home, we hired a contractor to extend our front porch. The large southern pillars were moved to the edge of our enclosed porch. We find much peace and relaxation when sitting on our porch, in any kind of weather whether raining or sunny, or during the daytime or nighttime. We can watch the birds, deer and other wildlife animals come down from the woody area about a half mile up our street.

This is a wonderful area to read, during the daytime. One can watch the huge tall evergreen trees up and down the street blowing in the wind and just relax after a busy day, resting our minds. Our street is mostly quiet, with not a lot of traffic.

As the sun goes down behind the mountains, the sky turns many lovely colors. When the stars come out, the night sky is glorious. This is a place to clear our minds after a busy day of working or hurrying around taking care of business. We truly love the scene from our front porch and find great comfort in the enjoyment of our view.

Been there & described very accurately!
by: Mandy Richardson

I have been to this beautiful home and indeed it is a lovely sanctuary for two lovely people.

I was fortunate enough to work with this important woman and listen to the progress on her home as a couple of years went by.

Their ideas transformed their home into one of the loveliest on the hillside! Kudos!

As Time Goes Bye...

You are an inspiration, Sister!

After reading your home-sweet-home story, I could not resist adding my own and now, next morning, I receive an email from you that you saw it before I knew my submission had been accepted ---

Looks like we both are living a lovely life, eh?

Thanks for pulling me in to the pen-light. Hugs.

To be precise and to speak the truth, I am happy to say - it is not your home but a paradise!

Though I am not blessed with a sweet and cozy home like yours, I was overjoyed when I saw your house because it silently speaks so many truths about having a roof over our head!

My best wishes dear. Carry on in this divine abode. I am also a romantic person like you who dreams and craves to live and earn in a country like yours!

I am an Indian at present serving as an English teacher in Maldives. Bye!

Great Living Area
by: darlene

You are lucky to have such a wonderful place. I have always dreamed of having a huge circular porch, and tables and chairs; a place to write my letters, and it would be by the ocean. I love the breeze and weather.

Relaxing

Sounds like you have a great place to live on earth. Consider how fortunate you are. Some areas of the USA are not as safe and comfortable as what you have described.

God bless!

Looking forward to seeing Oregon
by: Norma Byrne

My husband and I live in NJ. He retires next year and we are planning to drive the perimeter of the USA. I am looking forward to seeing the southwest of Oregon as we drive down the Pacific coast area.

Very nice post!

Do you write letters on your porch as well?

It sounds wonderful. Glad to hear you appreciate and enjoy your private garden setting and Oregon neighborhood.
