WHO is a Pen friend? Anyone who cares to write a letter! We are folks, worldwide – ladies and gentlemen who care to share life via letter writing, single and married, rich and poor, young and not-so-young! We are educated and not, working and unemployed. We are your sister, your neighbor, your co-worker and your friends - the people of the USA and the World! Correspondence is truly the equalizer of friendships.
Pen friends come in all ages, colors, shapes and sizes. Looks don’t matter as we are communicating mind to mind – the visual distractions are gone. Friendship reigns and we meet mind to mind! Diversity reigns as that's what makes life so very interesting!
A pen pal might be a nurse on the midnight shift, a housekeeper who loves to swap recipes, a stay at home mom sharing life with other moms, a lonely senior seeking new friends, a teen looking for worldwide contacts.
Pals find friendship in many different avenues: A new stay at home mom writes to a senior who describes motherhood in the 1920s, a liberated office manager learns from a country farming gal, a pal wants to swap postcards, or maybe someone seeks correspond on a specific topic: lupus, clowns, gardening or books.
At Friendship-by-mail, we are all these folks, and a whole lot more! Pen friends can have lots in common with you, or can be very different than you – that’s the beauty of writing letters!
WHAT is A Pen Friend? It is correspondence – plain and simple. It’s someone who feels the need to communicate via the written word. It’s a hobby for someone who enjoys written friendships, usually with a "stranger”, who quickly becomes a “friend”, and who lives far away across the nation or across the world.
We are postcard writers, short letter writers and gals who write volumes of pages in each letter, long letter writers. Some write at the computer while others prefer hand written letters. Many pen friends are lifetime friends. A pen friend is also a person who enjoys the daily visit to their mailbox – yes, that mundane routine task that others just do – we enjoy that job! Why? Because We Find Friendship Inside!
WHERE are Pen friends? Living across the nation in homes, apartments, condos and RV’s - they are your neighbors, your family and your friends. They are also in every country worldwide – pen friends are everywhere!
You can find pen pals through a variety of methods – but if you aren’t into this hobby (yet!), you likely don’t realize the huge pen friend network that is out there – but here we are!
WHEN do they “pen pal”? (yes, “pen pal” can be a verb in the Pen Pal World!)-- When time allows. It doesn’t matter when you write, this is a hobby you can do anywhere you care to! Some pen friends write letters daily, where others simply can’t. Some pen friends hand write letters wherever they go, where others do it in the quiet of the night after others are in bed, at the doctors office waiting for an appointment, or throughout the day as they think of something else they want to share.
We write letters when we have time – in the midst of a chaotic day or in the quiet of the night – letter writing is like journaling, a chance to relive your week and capture it in your words and thoughts!
