How Long do Pen Pals Last?

I have a question.....How long do you keep your pen pal?

Wendy's Reply: I hope some pals comment on this, as this is a "it depends" question. Like any friendships in life, some last weeks, others last a lifetime. You might find someone who totally clicks with you, your hobbies, your thoughts and feelings, or not.

You might find someone who clicks, but doesn't have a thing in common with you -- country girl vs city girl, two completely different lifestyles (foreign pals), but you just have a fantastic friendship learning about each other.

Pen Pals can Last a Lifetime AND change Lives!

In 2006, I got a call from Lin H, my NY pen pal, frantic because her mom was in a nursing home, and was very ill, starving herself, and the nursing home was trying to convince them they could not take her home.

I went there from September of 2006 to April of 2007, and by the time I returned home, Mrs. Hughes was home. She had care, all paid for,and her loving daughters were content. Their mama had gained weight from 72 pounds to around 120, and was happy with them.

I kept the phone lines busy, from the state's attorney-general to local businesses. With a lot of of caring people, we got things accomplished.

I had met Lin in the 70's, when she made her first visit to us. So, pen pals can definitely become lifetime friends.

I have lost many pen pals over the years for various reasons, but will always be happy to tell anyone who will listen about the joys of pen-palling, and all the benefits and happiness it has brought me over the years.

I hope mine last a long time !!!

Pals for 50 years

To answer the question, "How long do pen pals last?" I hope to say "a life time".

I still got my very first pen pal. Nancy and I started back in high school and we will be celebrating our 50th in July. How cool is that to have a pen pal for 50 years?

I plan on sending Nancy some flowers and a card.

I hope we can be pen pals for a lot more years. I won't ask for 50 more years but 25 years more would be awesome.

How long do penpals last?

As long as you want them to.

My penpal Betsy has been a pal since 1965; she was one of my first cookbook penpals.

The same year, I became acquainted with Eileen, my Australian penpal. We have been through so much together, over the years.

My penpal Penny became a pal in 1968, I think.

My penpal Bev & I started corresponding in 1974.

I have MET all of these penpals and it only helps to cement the friendship.

Last year, I met my new pal Sharon, who is Canadian-and we drove all over California together. I know we will have a forever friendship even though it's only a couple of years old.

I also met another new Canadian pal, Doreen, last year. I love my penpals!
