The life in Bulgaria I guess few of you have heart of my country. You all will be surprised after hearing about it and how I feel when talking for it. There are so many small countries around the world that nobody have ever heart of. Let me show you why it's worth knowing my homeland and visit it.
Let's start with its location. This piece of heaven is situated on the Balkan peninsula, Europe. Yeah, you haven't heart lots of good things about this peninsula, and about Eastern Europe generally. But what you may not know is that even being in a catastrophic economical situation now, this region has once been an arena of constant fighting and brave people showing their enormous love towards their motherlands. Yeah, we are not from those educated western aristocrats. Our history has been very tough and my ancestors fought with all the strength they had.
I started with history in order to make you imagine what do this part of land has endured and what spirit is still living in it. Now I will switch to my country in particular. It has everything you might need- from a beautiful sunny seaside to high mountains always covered with snow. The nature is our best friend. Although I know that every country has beautiful landscapes... Our folk music is something every person should hear. The mix of all the things I mentioned makes me proud to be a Bulgarian. So do my peers. We have all been brought up with this love towards Bulgaria. Maybe not many people would appreciate this in the 21st century, but remembering who are you and where do you come from is vital for every person's developement.
It's high time to move to the main idea- my life here. Well, I am a normal teen. I guess teens don't deffer at all wherever they come from. I lead the life of a normal person at my age. I go to school, meet friends, study useless lessons, do my own rebel things- like smoking occasionally... Our society is on some way falling down, I guess, but this is a normal situation in all of the countries nowadays. Yeah- teens don't obey as they used to once.
My family- I have already mentioned the economic problems. It is very usual here to meet a child which is taken care of by grandparents, because its parents work abroad. Yeah- it turns out that a teacher here takes less money than a cleaner in Greece (my mother's case). My mom is an immigrant(in Greece), so does my brother(in the US), and now I live only with my dad, who is a bus driver. I don't complain, but the lack of money can't be compared with the lack of one of the parents. The phone contact is nothing. About the family relationships as whole- in the past the patriarchy was compulsory, but nowadays you can find all kinds of families. These days we appreciate the mutual respect.
What more can I say about my life. School- I guess that it is not the best institution in my country. We study useless things. They overwhelm us with information we would never use. It is not a surprise that when a Bulgarian child goes to USA, for example, it usually passes two or three grades at once and goes to the higher ones. Most young people leave my country in order to look for a better life. I am also thinking of going to an uni in USA, but believe me ,I would never forget where do I come from. It is rare to meet a Bulgarian that lies about his/her origin.
Politics- Politicians don't care about people and we don't care about them. As a result- everybody do whatever he/she wants. It is a cute small mess. :) Well, once you have used to this chaos you don't pay attention. Maybe I am a kind of person that doesn't like everything to be perfect. My life wouldn't have a point if I have no problems. So I guess- this chaos has become a kind of living.
Free time- you may not find lots of things to do if you live in a small town, as in my case. But our children are very creative and they always make up some games. I don't know how they succeed and I don't remember how did I do this before..:D We have some traditional games for which you don't need any special equipment. Me and my friends, however, prefer to go to the bigger cities and have fun- going to cinema, theater, shopping and so on. I am not a kind of person that likes discos a lot. But, occasionally, when I need to wind up I visit such places. They are cool.
Culture- we celebrate many national and Christian holidays. Actually, we are famous with the fact that we can make every day a holiday. Or- we can always find something to gather and celebrate about- a Saint's day, 3rd cousin's birthday, success in the workplace, or just because we want to gather our friends and forget about things that disturb us.
I hope that you have liked my post and I really want to hear your comments.
Greetings from Bulgaria,
Vicky
