Bobby Vee

by Sharon
(Orland Park, IL, USA)

"What a weird title" you may think! When I was a mere 15 years old, I started a Bobby Vee Fan Club, which became quite successful with members from all over.

During the two years that I ran the Club, I started to correspond with many girls who shared my interest in Bobby Vee and his music.

As I became accquainted with these girls, we began to discuss other areas of our lives, like boys, school, dances, all the things teenagers talked about in those days.

I was hooked from then on, and pen paling has brought such joy to my life ever since. By the way, I am still pals with two of the ladies from my Bobby Vee Fan Club. I have met both of them.

In fact, my pen pal, Marie, and her daughter met with my husband, son and I in New York a few years ago and had dinner. What a great time we had!

I am such good friends with many of the ladies I have met since, and it is wonderful to be able to sit down and write an old-fashioned letter on pretty stationery, and discuss our lives. It is a wonderful past time and I am so lucky to have these great people in my life.

That is my story. Hope you enjoyed reading it. (Any old Bobby Vee fans out there?)

Sharon

Looking for President BV Fan Club 1960: Terry Cavanagh, New York
by: Kaye

Hi - I too was a Bobby Vee fan in Australia. IN 1960 I became pen pals with the then President of the New York Fan Club - Terry Cavanagh. Having met her in London in the 1970s. I have lost contact. Does anyone know where she is?

Bobby Vee UK Fanclub
by: Tees Behiri

Hi Sharon

How lovely to read your comments. I grew up with Bobby Vee playing in every room in our house, my sisters Helen and Mary ran the UK fan club for many years.

They were both devoted fans - sadly Mary passed away but Helen and my other sister Jo often talk about the many times we met Bobby. He was always lovely.

Best Wishes Tess

Another Bobby Vee fan! MJ from New England...
by: MJ

Donna K sent me your e-newsletter. In it there was a story by Sharon about Bobby Vee, saying she was looking for other fans to write.

My goodness, I've been a fan of his since 1962, also had a fan club for him, met him, and corrisponded with his secretary, Clela McFarland, for years.

I would love to get in touch with Sharon. How do I do that?

MJ--I forwarded on your message to Sharon.. I'm sure the two of you will have lots to talk about! Wendy
