A BIRTHDAY EXTRAORDINAIRE!

A Pal In England & A USA Postal Worker Collaborate...

by Lynda Clark
(Minneapolis, MN, USA)

About fifteen years ago on my birthday in November, I headed off to the post office in a suburb of Minneapolis to get my mail and send off a letter.

I had a feeling that something unusual was in the works when I noticed the quizzical looks on the faces of several postal clerks. I had gotten to know them well, especially Ron, since I'd had a postal box there for a couple of years.

As I approached the counter, everyone said "HAPPY BIRTHDAY LYNDA". Ron waited on me and said, "Lynda, I have something for you from Angie."

She was my fun-loving, wacky, wonderful pen pal from England who'd met Ron once when she came for a visit.

I could feel my face heating up and knew the clerks were having a good chuckle.

Ron came back with a beautiful birthday cake that said "HAPPY BIRTHDAY LYNDA".

Angie had sent him $10 and asked if he could go out and buy me a cake. Amazingly, he did!

I couldn't believe that she managed to get that idea through and that Ron would take the time to go out and buy a cake. What a kind-hearted guy he was and what a special pen pal I had!

Just thinking about it through the years brings a smile and a few tears of appreciation.

I still see Ron on occasion at the post office and still have Angie as my pen pal.

They made that birthday A BIRTHDAY EXTRAORDINAIRE!

Wendy's Two Cents: I agree, Lynda... amazing story that your pal had met him, remembered Ron, and had a hunch that he just might help her with the birthday cake! Then to think that a postal worker took their own time to buy the cake.. WOW... Quite Extraordinary! I love it!
